To Honor Those Who Serve

More than 700 veterans, sponsors and guests gather annually for the US Airways Freedom Breakfast to celebrate Veterans Day. The event, with guest performers, honors those who have served our country in the Armed Forces.

Each year, the Carolinas Freedom Foundation presents its prestigeous Freedom Award to an individual or a group who has distinguished him/herself by serving our country and its citizens selflessly, and with total dedication to further the cause of freedom. Past winners include retired General Hugh Shelton, former Mayor John Belk, Senator Jesse Helms, Ross Perot, Joe Martin, World War II veterans, the USO Medal of Honor Society, and retired Air Force Col. and former prisoner of war Quincy Collins.

In addition, high school and middle school students, along with their teachers and principles, who have ubmitted winning entries to the Patriotic Art Contest and Character Development Essay Competition are recognized.

Special Achievement Awards are also presented to those deserving men and women serving in law enforcement, fire fighting, emergency medical services, and the Armed Forces for their dedication and contribution to the cause of freedom.

Ten immigrants are also sworn in as citizens of the United States during an emotionally charged ceremony, while guests are provided insight into their struggles toward citizenship.
