Carolinas Freedom Foundation hosts JROTC Awards and Recognition Ceremony at Bojangles' Coliseum

July 2019

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - The Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools (CMS) JROTC Program is celebrating another successful school year. More than 3,000 students are enrolled and participated in the Cadet Achievement Awards program recently at Bojangles Coliseum.

The cadets were recognized for their scholarship, leadership and community service. Students say the program has helped them tremendously.

"It has helped me build as a leader," North Mecklenburg High School Cadet Sheridan Smith said. "Now I am more outspoken, but before I was really like shy and could barely even talk in front of a classroom."

Smith has a 4.2 grade point average and will be attending North Carolina State University in the fall. She says the consistent one-on-one attention she gets from her instructors make the difference. She says if she is struggling in a subject the instructors will find a way to offer assistance.
